The Castle Rock Music Department aims to include everyone in a vibrant musical culture and enable all students to realise their own artistic ambitions and aspirations.

Our Curriculum is performance orientated and puts music making at the centre of all our lessons. Students will set their own goals and targets as well as have a say in how their curriculum works. Throughout their time at Castle Rock students will develop instrumental skills on Guitar, Keyboard, Drums and Voice as well as learning how to develop their ICT skills using new Mac software. They will also learn how to compose creatively, the skill of improvisation and how to work as a band, ultimately developing team work skills and confidence.

Some people believe that to learn a musical instrument is a privilege, but at Castle Rock High School we know its value and impact on all areas of the curriculum. This is why we offer all of our Year 8 and Year 9 students the opportunity to take part in Music Maestros.

Learning to play a musical instrument, read musical notation and play as an orchestra are all tremendous skill to have, which can impact on many areas of the school curriculum as well as develop social and personal skills. At Castle Rock we not only provide free tuition but also lend instruments and even provide transport home after the lessons.

Each child has the choice to learn an instrument of either brass, string, woodwind, percussion, guitar or bass guitar. Parents and grandparents are also invited to come and join in. They will learn their instrument through musical workshops that take place every Monday after school and are facilitated by specialist peripatetic staff through the Leicestershire Schools Music Service.

Students who wish to learn a specific instrument are encouraged to take peripatetic music lessons in school. Castle Rock uses the following peripatetic teachers. For more information on prices and lesson availability, or if there any instruments that you would like to learn that we do not currently offer, please contact the school.
