e-Safety Update

Information for parents regarding the latest e-Safety concerns.

Parents and Carers should be aware of the TELLONYM app, an anonymous messaging service that lets users ask questions which are answered anonymously by other users. People share their Tellonym link with others through social media platforms like Snapchat and Instagram, and wait for friends to reply to questions anonymously.

Users can follow each other and send each other anonymous messages. The personal nature of Tellonym coupled with the anonymous feedback system means that there is significant capacity for cyber-bullying to take place. Users can block and report people who send hurtful or harassing messages, or enable a filter that looks for and blocks messages containing certain words.

Tellonym recommend that the app is not used by children under the age of 16.

We recommend that parents check for the Tellonym app on their children's devices, or any evidence of it's use through other social media accounts they have.
